EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing)

Originally based on use of structured eye movements enacted while processing traumatic memories, more recent approaches do not have to include eye movements.  I do not use eye movements in my traumatic symptom-reduction work, but the name has international recognition and cannot be changed.

This technique can be highly effectively in integrating traumatic memories and eliminating uncomfortable, or debilitating unprocessed emotional reactions to either “small t” (everyday traumas like being bullied or shamed) and “big T” traumas (assault, sudden loss of a loved one, being involved in a serious auto accident, for example).
